Still Life with Sofa and Lamps, Madison, Georgia, 2012
z_madison
This is the Madison, Georgia Welcome Center, occupying an old 19th century firehouse, where one can get pamphlets telling you what to do in Madison. I don't remember gathering up any pamphlets. I only remember this view, which commanded a photo because, with those lamps and that sofa with its gigantic wooden frame, has yet to be redefined as a twenty-first century office space. I was vaguely charmed by the scene but also recollect feeling vaguely discomfited when I took the photo, like I should do it as quickly and casually as possible in order not to attract suspicion.
The outing was for my mother-in-law, but even she balked at the prices of touring Madison's finest. We settled on visiting the Madison Morgan Cultural Center, featured in the topmost print in the photo. Housed in an 1895 Romanesque Revival style building that was once a public school, it had some nice visual art exhibits.
