Palm Trees and Cactus
On the series: I grew up in the northwest, not around cactus and palms. I live in the southeast, not around cactus and palms. Cactus and palm trees are beautifully photogenic to me. Some people manage to grow cactus in the southeast, and of course there are palm trees in the coastal areas, but taking photos of cactus and palms in the east isn't the same as out west. In the east, the cactus and palms are invariably surrounded by greenery that crowds out their sculptural qualities. As I'm not much around cactus and palm trees, I suppose they remain novel to me.
