The Art - Photography
Michael C. Carlos Museum
On the series: Photographing sculpture, I look for a connection with the artist who labored over the animation of his creation and its thousands of angles of articulation. It's a curious thing to slip into their skin and experience the possible sensations of their engagement with the object as it took form and returned their gaze or remained ever aloof and focused eternally beyond them. It's also interesting to examine, in a photograph, how a museum has chosen to frame an object in the manner of its display and its relationship to the environment.
I need to get back to the Carlos and photograph these sculptures again. In 2010 I was satisfied with the results. With the exception of a few, not so in 2016.
