To Phoenix and the Heard Museum
What I then did on my summer vacation. My dad had driven up to Cottonwood and spent three days with us there, touring around. Then on Saturday we went down to Phoenix for three days.

We went to Tuzigoot and Jerome, Wednesday last
So, Wednesday last, we then went to Tuzigoot and Jerome.

Sedona
My mother used to live in Sedona. We drove all of a few minutes over to it to eat at the popular Coffee Pot, named for one of the rock formations above Sedona. We had a nice breakfast.

Our next exhibit
Pure poetry aided and abetted by Erik Satie, recommended by Norwegianity. Every afternoon at four o’clock, he finds himself in a room where he sits and watches the passing of the telephone lines playing on the opposite wall. The other day H.o.p. saw something that was only a positive archetypal figure in a brief story.…

Ruby Falls
Apparently there is only one possible photo you can take at Ruby Falls at Chattanooga, Tennessee. This is it. You will notice that it was taken in 2003 and that it doesn’t bear my name. But it’s the exact same photo I took at Ruby Falls, except mine had a couple of water spray dots…

Not that Hobo Joe’s
There is a little place in Cottonwood, Arizona called Hobo Joe’s Coffee Shop. 660 E Mingus Ave. My dad, Marty and H.o.p. and I were pointed to Hobo Joe’s by my mother who had never actually eaten there. I ordered the green chili omelette with cheddar and hash browns and biscuit. “Good choice,” said the…

Politics? What politics?
We’re back and our fish are still alive. My husband’s father has been battling ALS the past five years and landed in the hospital a couple of weeks before we were to set out on a long-planned vacation to the Ioway Fall Encampment in Kansas and then down to see my mother in Cottonwood and…

We are lousy scientists
I subscribe to Robert Krampf’s Experiment of the Week newsletter. Today Experiment #442 Melting Ice was the offering. H.o.p. is game for anything to do with water and ice. Perfect. We were instructed to put an ice cube in boiling water and hold one under a stream of cold water. The question was, which would…

Thumbs Carllile
With a nod to Dharma Bums who got me started thinking about it. Rexroth’s Daughter wrote a beautiful post on the how and why she is a collector of handshakes and her passion for it is a beautiful one unsullied by dropping-name ambitions, each handshake opening to the worlds of those others and the people…

Hope
H.o.p. thrusts a paper in front of my face and in his nasal cold sneezy voice says, “Guess what that is?” Blobs with faces. “That’s smoke and that’s pollution. They were the bad things let out of Pandora’s Box.” Yes, indeed the ills of the world released from Pandora’s Box. “Except for hope,” H.o.p. says.…

Friendly neighborhood gas update
Gas. Exxon at Piedmont and Ponce de Leon was totally sold out of gas today because of the run on it caused by rumors that Atlanta’s gas would be cut off because of Katrina. There were probably 30 cars still at the gas station across the street (at 10 PM) and officers still out trying…

Increasing panic over gas in Atlanta
The AJC reports that “the possibility of shortages of gasoline at area stations had metro drivers waiting at pumps to fill up this morning. And prices rose accordingly.” My husband just called from the gas station (where our water pump was apparently, mistakenly replaced when only some hoses needed replacing) and he was told by…
