Old postcard of Columbia River

Old postcard of the Columbia River. Reads, Columbia river separating Oregon and Washington. Scene shows vista house at Crown Point with express highway and Mighty Columbia River. No date.

Extremely faded. Didn’t toy with it much, just bringing out a few colors. Didn’t see any point laboring over major color adjustments.

For comparison, here are pics of Crown Point and Vista House today, with a couple from approximately same direction.

The Gorge is truly awe-inspiring. When I was very young, we tooled down the old, slow, tree-canopied highway to Multnomah Falls, where we stayed in a camp trailer overnight. Before that, I went with my Dad to see Celilo Falls, where Yakama and other Indians dip-netted salmon from lashed together platforms. (Celilo no longer exists, due to the damming of the river.)

Once, I road a boat down the Columbia to the ocean at Ilwaco. That’s the best way to see the Gorge.

Last time I was there, I went down the Washington side, because the interstate on the Oregon side made too much noise to enjoy the scenery. I also found a small family-operated ferry that crossed from Oregon to one of the river’s islands that had a little wooden bridge to Washington.
