H.o.p.: “If you don’t get me hot chili right now I will bring you chili with jam in it and peanut butter and cockroaches!”
H.o.p. missed the point that if he could bring me chili with jam and peanut butter and cockroaches in it then he would not have to be asking me for it in the first place. Seven-year-olds and critical reasoning look at each other askance. I could make this a political or cultural segue but…
At one point in the day H.o.p. suddenly reminded me that we’d not gotten him a Gumby toy, which we had promised him like 5 weeks ago and then forgot about and he had mentioned nothing about it since. He tells me that he saw one yesterday at the Puppetry Center and that he wants to go back to the Puppetry Center and get it. I ask him why, if he wanted the Gumby toy, he opted for Roxy the Robot.
H.o.p.: “Because Roxy the Robot looked adorable to me.”
All right.
H.o.p.: “I’ll get the Gumby toy next and the two dragons and wrap the Gumby toy up into a present so you’ll know it’s for you. I can’t wait to see the look on your face.”
All right. Thank you, H.o.p., for wanting to get me the Gumby toy. And having worked up a good bit of enthusiasm over the prospect of getting me a present he runs and gets me a compass-ruler and brings it to me saying it is a present.
‘But she must have a prize herself, you know,’ said the Mouse.
‘Of course,’ the Dodo replied very gravely. ‘What else have you got in your pocket?’ he went on, turning to Alice.
I have 4 reviews of Gumby shows waiting to go up from a few weeks ago. I’m doubting I will finish them.
Hours later H.o.p. brings me, with no warning, a pen from his stash of pens and says it is mine. I say, “Oh?” He says it is a present. I check and it has ink. Oh, my! He has me kiss him all over the face in thanks and then he reciprocates with a snort. Amazing the force with which he’s able to exhale air out his nostrils.
Right now H.o.p. is watching Tim and Moby talk about sleep at Brainpop. Great site for science for kids but they happen to be wrong about REM sleep and dreams which used to be thought synonymous but are not.
I subscribed to the site with the math flash movies for H.o.p. He was enormously excited about it last night. He was excited about it today until he pulled out my (his) Nikon Coolpix 3100 to film an animation and found that I had deleted several of his movies.
H.o.p. makes movies of movies. Lots of them.
I had thought I’d already uploaded them to the computer. I am now in big trouble.
H.o.p. cried.
