Saltair, “the cursed resort”, at Salt Lake, Utah.

It was freezing cold. We were the only ones there. The briney air was near suffocating in its potency. We didn’t even know Saltair existed but coming upon it we immediately recognized it from the film “Carnival of Souls”.

Saltair was considered a serendipitous find, but it was closed, the air was obnoxious, and the wind off the lake was freezing our unprepared butts off. We quickly went on our way with only this one snapshot for the memory book.

    This picture has nothing to do with the Saltair in the movie “Carnival of Souls”. The location of the “Old Saltair” is located 2 miles east of this old aircraft hanger called Saltair.

    Excuse me for my imprecision. This is the Saltair Resort and amusement park that had been opened in 1983. By recognizing it as from the film, what I had intended to convey is that it is, well, yes, Saltair, which it was, each Saltair built in the spirit of the last, carrying over certain design elements, and conspicuously situated on the otherwise barren shore of the Great Salt Lake. No, it was not the Saltair Resort as seen in the film, but it was the Saltair Resort.
