Husband happened on a neighbor who identified who owns the chickens. She seemed concerned the owner might be raising them to feed to her dog as she feeds her dog raw chicken. My husband said he thought that was kind of a pricey way to go for dog food and he imagined they were pets.

yeah, I’d have to agree with your husband. and it really doesn’t matter if it’s a strange pet combo. Are chickens and a dog and weirder than a cat and some fish? Maybe the neighbor’s just homesick for the farm, or wants fresh eggs, or something of that sort.
At least your neigbors only have chickens. Mine have over-active car alarms.

Tish, there’s no rooster, just a quiet thresome of hens. No over-active car alarms. The cars are busted into around here on a regular basis, windows broken out, for which reason everyone leaves their cars unlocked and nothing in them. And still you may come out and find someone busted a window, despite the being unlocked.

Hmmm….I continue to be amazed that, in my neighborhood, there aren’t more break-ins and such. And I can’t credit the car alarms for being the deterrant. More than likely it’s all the activity at the liquor store across the street, the pizza joint a couple doors down, and the biker bar. Since they are middle-class bikers, they’d probably crush anybody breaking into a car. Then again, maybe we’ve got law-abiding drug addicts and prostitutes.
