Inspiration struck upon hearing Nuttin’ for Christmas last night. We’d no idea it existed and if you aren’t familiar then I suggest you go take a listen at the above link before proceeding, because…

I promptly came up with my own all natural, organic, folk holiday version, got Marty to play guitar, and off-the-top of our heads we gathered around the computer, the miracle Amish fireless fireplace website blazing on the monitor, and recorded. We’re kind of like the Von Trapp family only we’ve got one child and he won’t sing, which left the burden full on me.

    P.S. Nina, discovered the Carlos podcasts this evening. And we’re wondering what’s up with this Glass opera? Is the music playing on the website from it?

    Philip Glass wrote an opera, Ahkanaten (I think I’ve spelled this wrong), that will be performed in January at Emory’s Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts. It will be performed by the Atlanta Opera. I think a professor here at Emory wrote the libretto for the opera. Philip Glass will be here for several days, for the performance and for some workshops and maybe for a public talk, though not certain about that. There may be music from it on the website, though I’m not sure. I know there is some music on the website but I almost always keep the sound off on my computer so I don’t hear it. I’ll ask and let you know.

    It’s not often we care for Philip Glass over here, but the music on the website is lovely, whatever it is.

    OK, here’s what I found out about the music on the Carlos website. The track comes from PumpAudio.com and its called The Pearl. I didn’t get the name of a group but I did take a quick look at the website. Maybe that company sells work commercially? Without identifying the artist?

    Thanks. I can’t search at Pumpaudio (they do sell work commercially) but I’m thinking now this is perhaps a bite from Harold/Eno’s “The Pearl”, which would explain why we took note of it.

    Well, that was stupid of me. It’s not Budd/Eno (of course) and actually didn’t remind me of any of their work which is why I was wondering in the first place what it was and Budd/Eno never occurred to me. But when you said “The Pearl” I looked up “The Pearl” and all I was seeing floating around was Eno/Budd’s “The Pearl” and I thought, well, maybe just maybe their ambient went there at one point. So I downloaded Budd/Eno’s “The Pearl” and it’s not what was on the website but is classic Budd/Eno ambient and good to have. I tried playing the website into Midori and Shazam but got no result.

    I Shazamed it again and this time got a result, though I hadn’t two times previously. “The Pearl” by “In the Nursery”. Perhaps off “L’esprit” issued 1990. This sounds right. I just downloaded from iTunes and am playing it now. Is this it? Yes, indeed it is. Success! Thanks!

    Carole, I got it up! That was a hell of a lot of fun. Thank you. And Aaron, too, was so pleased!

    I started to put this up late last night and then the Christmas tree fell over. Heard a crash and went in to find glass ornaments broken all over the floor and a lot of non-glass ornaments crushed and broken. You wouldn’t imagine such a small tree falling over would cause such a mess. Seems it was off balance so I spent a while trying to do something about that (at least I tried, I’m not certain it’s much more stable) and trying to fix up the tree and redecorate it for H.o.p. Fortunately I had on hand a lot of paper snowflakes we’d cut out one year.
